Hello my Friend,
I hope you’ve a had a good weekend…maybe you did a few Autumny things?
Perhaps you’ve been working along with the Nature Table Sketchbook Workshop… gathering, slow sketching, carefully looking, taking a breath.
As I was working through the class prep, I realised that whilst nature is slowing down and gently fading in preparation for it’s winter hibernation, we humans march on regardless … but WE are nature, so taking some time to pause and honour this transition gives us a chance to reflect and connect.
If you’d like to join in, this month you can access the workshop recording in the link below and there are live work-a-longs to drop into if you’d like some creative company whilst sketching:
This Week: Wednesday 9th October 10-11am BST
And: Wednesday 23rd October 7-8pm BST
Here’s what people have been up to…

‘Just to say how much I really enjoyed your workshop. I'm usually very hesitant to start drawing and when I do, I draw very meticulously! Too much so! You have helped me be a lot freer with my drawing and you give us so many tips and techniques on the way. Really wonderful. I feel very inspired to do more drawings this autumn! Many thanks for such a well thought-out workshop.’ Helen

My sketches this week are gathered from a damp and muddy ramble in the woods. We are very lucky to live near the National Arboretum in Westonbirt and we take Wilf the dog for a walk there every weekend. We get there early, go off the beaten track (to avoid the crowds) and usually find ourselves a new space to explore. This weekend, we saw rising woodsmoke, a forest of fairy cobwebs, low shafts of stolen summer sun through a glade of towering pines and lots of mushrooms! It reminded of the words of Laurie Lee’s Autumn Song
Each bird and stone, each roof and well,
feels the gold foot of autumn pass;
each spider binds with glittering snare
the splintered bones of grass.

Just a quick mention of next month’s workshop if you’re into a bit of forward planning and are keen to have a go at….drum roll….making your own advent calendar!!! I won’t say any more for now but you’ll find the info here if you’re curious!
Happy Nature Scribbling!
